Joseph Bunker, CPA, Partner, began his practice in public accounting in 1986, specializing in audits of not-for-profit corporations. He has been engaged as a consultant to not-for-profits in a wide variety of areas, including risk analysis, organizational structure analysis, internal control evaluations and many other areas, including unrelated business income tax issues.
Joe has lectured in California, Oregon and Washington on not-for-profit financial and accounting issues to a wide variety of audiences, including boards of directors, CPAs and financial managers. He has guest lectured at the University of San Francisco and at Golden Gate University. He was a founder of the "Beyond the Bottom Line" annual conference co-sponsored by the California Society of CPAs (CalCPA) and CompassPoint.
Joe is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He is a past chairperson of the Nonprofit Committee of the San Francisco Chapter of the CalCPA, a past president of the San Francisco Chapter of CalCPA, a past member of the CalCPA Board of Directors, and a past member of the CalCPA Council. He has also served the State Board of Accountancy on the Report Quality Monitoring Committee.
He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration with an emphasis in accounting from San Francisco State University. Joe serves on the Board of Directors of a Marin County not-for-profit organization.
Gina Mele, Partner, provides consultant services in business development and human resources. Prior to working with Bunker & Company, Gina worked as both a business consultant and as a biotechnology researcher. Gina is the business owner of MMI, which has been in operation since 2002 and offers business consulting to executive management clientele. Gina holds a Masters Degree in Biology in Neuroscience and a Bachelor’s Degree in Biochemistry and Cell Biology.
Janet Briggs, CPA(inactive), began working with Bunker & Company in 2006 as a Consultant and Auditor. Janet currently specializes in not-for-profit organizations and consults with firms in need of advice on regulatory and accounting issues. She is the Director of Finance for the not-for-profit, Seneca Center, located in San Leandro, California. Janet received her Bachelor's Degree in Economics from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Sarah Finegold is the firm’s Office Manager. She is responsible for the daily operations of the business and ensures that all clientele are given the highest quality of service and expertise. Prior to working with Bunker & Company, she worked for Montgomery Securities/Bank of America Securities. Sarah initially began as a research assistant. From this position she transferred to the trading desk where she became a Nasdaq Market Maker and served as an Institutional Equity trader for 11 years. Prior to working at Montgomery Securities, Sarah was an Options Trader for First Options of Chicago on the Options Trading floor of the Pacific Stock Exchange in San Francisco, California. Sarah received her Bachelor's Degree from the University of Northern Colorado with a major in Economics and a minor in Mathematics.
Anita Mair is responsible for various administrative functions, including aspects of quality control. She is a graduate of the University of Western Ontario in London, Ontario, Canada. Anita graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a focus in English, Language and Literature. Previously, she has worked in a variety of administrative and supervisory roles within the publishing, education, insurance, and risk management industries.
John Simpson, staff accountant, specializes in audits and tax returns (Form 990) for not-for-profit organizations. He has worked in finance and accounting for over twenty years. He is currently an Adjunct Professor in Accounting at Golden Gate University where he has taught for ten years. His not-for-profit experience includes four years as the Managing Director of Theatre Rhinoceros, located in San Francisco. John provides training on the use of QuickBooks accounting software. He also has experience working with new organizations and guiding them through the process of obtaining their not-for-profit status with the IRS (Form 1023). John is a Registered Tax Preparer in California. He holds an MBA in Finance from the University of California, Berkeley, a Masters Certificate in Arts Administration from Golden Gate University, and a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Vermont.
Jane Totten, Audit Fieldwork Manager, has worked with Bunker & Company since 1995. Her previous work experience includes Financial Manager at the art consulting firm, Van Doren Associates, business owner of a tax preparation firm that served individuals and small businesses, and Accountant for Zeisler and Sobel, CPAs in San Francisco. Jane received her MBA in Non Profit Management from Golden Gate University and her Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting at the University of Florida.
